Using CompendiumNG for Collaboration

Compendium was originally developed as a means for facilitating collaboration and collective sensemaking. Potential uses for CompenpdiumNG for collaboratin include the following:

Dialog mapping

The focus of dialog mapping is on discussion group facilitation. In contrast to issue mapping, the focus is on the discursive process of engaging in a dialog on an issue. The purpose is to converge in shared understanding among the members of a group in terms of what is the case and what should be done. For this different ideas and solutions are collected and potentially judged against each other collecting pro and contra arguments. In this context the issue based information system (IBIS) methodology supported by Compendium is of particular interest. Also the ability of Compendium to generate word outlines of maps and web exports can facilitate the exchange of the results of dialog mapping.

Meeting minutes

Compendium can also be use to capture the content of meetings while they are conducted. The flexible interface of compendium thus provides an alternative to more traditional means of creating minutes of a meeting. In particular the ability to link different statements in Compendium enables the creation of a visual depiction of the content of a meeting on the fly. Thus it is clearly visible what issues were raised and what responses were made to it. Compendiums ability to generate word outlines then enables effective circulation of these minutes.
